I will have one person start by sharing their claim, a few friends share an artifact, pieces from your overview of classes, and challenges. Each person will have to share one part of their POL and we will collectively complete a whole POL. At the end, you will share a value you had about something one of your peers shared. Gathering Prompt: What was the most interesting and the most boring thing you did this weekend? Whole Group - Review Artifacts: Review the list of potential artifacts. Ask students which artifact they chose for their first academic artifact. Ask what they plan to choose for the third one before they head back to their seat. You may want to briefly review the example artifact explanation before heading into independent time. Independent: Today you should link in and describe your third artifact! Gathering Prompt: Where do you get your "news" from? How do you find out what is going on in our community or the world?
Intro to Indie Lens Film - Storm Lake: Read through the Film Synopsis on page 7 of the Indie Lens Viewing Guide. How could this topic be relevant to you or our community? If time remains, explore the background information section on pages 8/9 of the guide. Discussion Questions: After the film, we will have the opportunity to discuss what we saw with panelists. Here are some discussion questions to consider (pg 11 on your paper). Please discuss with a partner and highlight one or two questions you are most interested in focusing on during the film. Gathering Prompt: Share one project or piece of evidence from any of your classes that you feel like shows your best work. Whole Group: Today you will choose your first artifact to support your claim! All of the things people shared from the gathering are examples of artifacts. Here are options that each teacher has given as an artifact you could use to show your learning and growth from their class! Remember that artifacts should be an example of your best work and show evidence of learning that occurred over time. We will review the questions you need to answer and do an example of describing an artifact together, using the questions on the Artifact 1 slide of your POL Planner. Independent: Choose your first artifact, link it in to your POL Planner, and begin to describe it using the prompting questions! If you are using a drive file as an artifact, make sure to change the link so anyone can view! Remember to write your answers in complete sentences and then delete the questions. Whole Group Review How to Write Claims: Today you will be completing slide 5 on your presentation. Look over the slide with students and go over the sample claim. You can use what you shared in the gathering to help you form your claim. Independent: Write Claims: Use this time to change the sample claim and description on slide 5 to your claim! Peel the Fruit: PoLs on June 5th & 6th. To prepare, we will be running a Peel the Fruit session in each discipline on different days this week and next. Monday May 1 = ELA Friday May 5 = Seminars Tuesday May 9 = Science Wednesday May 10 = SS Thursday May 11= Math Omnikin Tournament: May 5th is Semifinals Game 2. Freshmen vs. Staff Service Day: May 12th, we will be volunteering at locations around town, and enjoying a potluck lunch as a school. Blood Drive: May 12th. Sign up to donate blood, or volunteer to help run the process. Morp: Our final school dance ("Prom" spelled backwards) is on May 20th at Paradigm from 6:00-9:00pm. Tickets available soon. Presentations of Learning: June 5 (full day, no school) and June 6th (half day) Last Day of School Picnic: On June 7th, we will be celebrating the end of the school year with a picnic at Kings Park.
