Indie Lens Preparations
Set your things at your assigned table and circle up chairs! Start by letting students know on Wednesday, we are going to see an Indie Lens Film and have a discussion around it at the JMKAC. The activities we do today will help prepare us to better understand/interact with the film on Wednesday. Gathering: Name with a Motion Directions: Have the group form a circle. Ask students to say their names and make a gesture that demonstrates a favorite hobby or passion. After each person says his or her name and makes a gesture, everyone in the group will repeat the name and the gesture. Model the gathering first, then go around the circle. * Some students feel more comfortable engaging in this gathering when they are seated. The motion can be done from a chair. Do the SAME gathering again, but this time students cannot use their hands or arms to perform the gesture. They need to use different body parts. Once everyone has gone, discuss the following:
Watch the following clips: 1. Trailer 2. Short Clip from Movies As you are watching, grab some paper and a writing utensil. Do a CONNECT, EXTEND, CHALLENGE...

Academic Advisement Grade Tracker & Goal Setting Gathering: Circle Up & Share to Sit Share successes from the past week. Share struggles from the past week. Everyone should share one or the other, but may share both if they would like. The circle starts standing up, but students can sit after they have shared. Go Around: Goal Review | Fist to Five What was your goal, and how well did you do with your goal from last week? 0 = I forgot about it, and didn't even make accidental progress. 5 = Amazing! I should probably start a new goal this week. Share your response, and support it. (Ex: My goal is to keep my backpack more organized. I chose a 3, because I took out everything that I don't need, but it's full of new things I don't need.) Independent Work:
Goal Feedback/Suggestions: Every student should have a goal partner. Teachers should assign partners to ensure that everyone has a partner, but it may be beneficial for students to have some voice in who they are working with. Once partnered up, students should discuss their goals, and offer suggestions to each other to help a goal be successful. Ticket Out: Verbal What was the best suggestion you received today? OR What is your new goal for the next few weeks? Extended Gathering Day
