THURSDAY: Future Planning - Writing Professional Emails
Gathering: Who is the last person you emailed that wasn't a teacher? Did it have to be a "professional" email? When does an email need to be professional, and when is it okay to be casual? Pair & Share: Pair up students to read the "bad" model email. Pairs should read through the email and write down what makes the email unprofessional. After students have a list compiled, then circle up as a whole group and share notes on how to make the email more professional. Afterwards, compare the group list to the tips from Addie. Where is the overlap? What's missing? Guided Work Time/Conferencing & Town Hall
Advisory for Attendance 11:30 - 11:40 Town Hall | 11:40 - 12:30 Addie's Advisory is hosting Town Hall Topic: Community Building Guided Work Time | 12:30 - 2:00 Gathering: Circle Up
Goal Setting: Use the SMART Goal document in the binder to detail your first goal for the school year. Think long term; 2-4 weeks. Avoid "complete this assignment" goals. GWT: -Be sure to meet students at the door and remind them to bring work with them to GWT, and to find a quiet space where they can work without distraction. -Circle up and have students share out a goal they have for GWT. Record the goals in a common area (white board, spreadsheet, etc). -For this first session, students should be working silently, independently, and in the designated Advisory room. Explain that there will be more flexibility in the future, but we are building routines and habits. If we start with a loose structure, it will only get looser until students feel as though focused work is not an expectation. -Ticket Out: Share out what you accomplished today! **If students you feel students need a break since this is a long block and we haven't yet started office hours, feel free to do a group gathering/activity in the middle to break things up. This could be continuing Keep It Up, taking a walk, everybody who, etc.** One on One Conferencing: This year, you can use GWT time to one on one conference with advisees. Please prepare a conferencing schedule for today so you know which students you want to conference with and so they are prepared. Conferences should take 5-7 minutes each. Remember that a form you can use for documenting these conferences is available under academic advisement (template for one on one conferencing). In addition, there is an example conversation documented from a one on one conference unless you are unsure of what these should look like. Conferences should follow the general format...
Gathering: Circle Up & Share to Sit
Share successes from the past week. Share struggles from the past week. Everyone should share one or the other, but may share both if they would like. The circle starts standing up, but students can sit after they have shared. Goal Prep: Quick Jot (post-it) Thinking about a struggle you're having (like the one you mentioned in the Gathering). Can you turn that into a goal that you would work on for 2-4 weeks? We will identify work tasks in GWT tomorrow, so avoid "complete this assignment" goals. Example Goals: Connect Take a look at the sample goals as a group. Which Habit of Professionalism does each goal connect with? Which goals do you connect with? Ticket Out: Write down your goal, and which Habit of Professionalism is connect with. (a post-it or a notecard is fine; don't take the time to fill out the whole SMART Goal document) Extended Gathering Day

You may choose to pass. Extended Gathering: Would You Rather - Everyone should participate throughout the whole gathering! link to instructions (the folder of gatherings is linked above, if you prefer to choose a different gathering) Ticket Out: Share something that surprised you about one of your peers today! FRIDAY: Friday Ritual
Gathering: Select a color paint chip that somehow symbolizes how you feel about something you have planned for the upcoming weekend. Ritual Friday - We never decided on a ritual that includes everyone. Continue our thoughts on a ritualized Friday activity. THURSDAY: Design a Town Hall
