Do Now: Take a marker and as a group, share your ideas and write down facts about sound. What do you know?
Take your marker and as a group, move to the next whiteboard. Read through the sound facts written down and add any new ones you think of. Repeat. Return to your whiteboard and read the facts. Circle or star the facts that are important for understanding how to build an effective noise barrier. Let's list these ideas for the class on this Google Doc NEXT: Share your Design Noise reduction results: Google Doc
What are the two ways sound can be blocked from coming through our door? We are using materials to reflect and absorb sound. We know that sound is a wave of energy that moves the particles of matter as a vibration. Let's draw models to try to explain how sound waves, hitting some type of material might be reflected and how it might be absorbed. We will discuss what happens to the matter and what happens to the energy. THE KEY is that the sound wave get's reduced or changed into some other kind of energy. Go to Google Classroom for Mar 30 to open your assignment called: Scientific justification for Door Noise design choices. Use the scientific principles of sound energy reflection and absorption to analyze how you think each of your design features helps block sound.
