Do Now: Challenge - Put your stuff down in the room and come line up alphabetically by last name in the hall.
1. Students are the matter particles (molecules or atoms) and we will make a human sound wave (also is a pressure or compression wave). RULES: Atoms never touch, but can get closer or farther apart. After the wave has moved you, return to your original location. 2. Sound PhET Google Form for learning and add some notes to your notebook. 3. Discuss the question, "What affects the speed of sound?" Jot some ideas on the board. Watch this video on the speed of sound and sonic booms. 4. White boards -
5. Draw a model of a gas, a liquid and a solid on your whiteboard or notebook. 6. If sound is energy, then why doesn't sound stop when it hits matter (atoms and molecules)? Or does it? Write the question and your thinking in your notebook, then we will discuss as a class. As we discuss, please write important ideas you should add. We have a problem we need to engineer our way out of... What do we need to know about the science of sound?
