Science Skill Do Now: Grab a yellow sheet at the door. See if you can solve this problem to find the frequency of a sound wave.
LESSON
Work as a group. Discuss why you made the choices you did in your ranking. What scientific facts have we learned that helped you come to your ranking? Count off...the 1's stay at your table, the rest will spread out to a new table. The 1's who stayed behind will explain their ranking and reasoning. The other students should offer their ideas, agree, disagree and what is the scientific reason why. Repeat one more time before going back to your own table. Paper Handout - Now that you have heard a lot of educated opinions about the materials, brainstorm a very rough draft idea (just an idea) for the materials you might use and how you might use them for your first design. Even if a material might be hard to come by, you can add it to your first design if it is not too crazy. Titanium would be a "No!" You can make substitutes later when you know for sure what materials we can actually get. If we have time... Move to a different table that has nobody from your original table - 3-4 per table. Take turns presenting your draft engineering design. Jot down notes from feedback you get on the back of your sheet. Record any new ideas you got and how you might change your design. Ticket out: Turn in your draft design ideas with your name on it. What part of the design do you like the most?
