WorkshopLocations: same as PrepFactory Do Now | Check what club you signed up for today. If you have not done so yet, sign up for clubs for today! (Advisors, please verify all your advisees are signed up) Resume Workshop Outcome | Resume Rough Draft Resume Components (10 minutes) If you have a previous resume in Google Drive, please open it. Retitle it:
If you do not have a resume, please create a new Google document and title it:
Today you will build your resume using the following components. Some of the components you may include in your resume, others you may choose not to include based on your experiences. The components in bold are mandatory. You may also choose how these components should appear on your resume—font, color, size (as long as they are professional). EDUCATOR NOTE: When I run this workshop, I open a new Google Document project on the overhead. I then enter in the following information as I talk about it and require students to copy what I am doing. When they are done, they are to give me the thumbs up so I can validate that each section is present within the document.
Action Verbs (15 minutes) Grab a copy of the Action Verbs or open it on your computer. For each of the resume components you selected, you are going to describe the skills you gained from these experiences. Begin by selecting a project you created at school that you are proud of. The project can come from any of your classes.
EDUCATOR NOTE: Again, before I send students into Studio Time to complete this task, I create my own on the overhead. I usually pick one of my own classes. I define one of the projects I have my students create as if I am the student. Then I enter in the bulleted action details of learning. Sometimes students in that English class end up adding this example to their resume, which I am ok with.
