Do Now: On a piece of paper for the group, please brainstorm as many things as you can that humans do in the world that cause CO, methane, other carbon molecules to be released into the world. GO Be ready to share with class. TASK 1: Before calculating your own carbon footprint, consider these questions and write down your thoughts:

Go over returned work - On Google Classroom. What is returned and what you need to work on. Practice chain of cause and effect using Jamboard - Ripple effect - 1, 2, 3iary what is causing what. From their other work on the different effects of climate change. We will be using this ripple effect of solutions.
Do Now: Find the group you were working with on Wednesday.
TASK: RESEARCH climate actions for an organization Take some time to browse and research your group or organization today that is taking actions against climate change. GOOGLE CLASSROOM: I added a few more websites with specific actions a group is taking to aid in reducing CO2 emissions or slowing global warming. I found that some websites list climate actions. I then used the list to specifically search for an organization doing that action...like recycling clothing. Try lots of different key words in your search. (climate, global warming, solution, action, organization, CO2 reduction, electric cars, bicycles, recycling, reducing emissions, food, travel, transportation...)
FIST = I got nothing done. 5 = I think our research is finished. Do now: Can you think of a group or organization that probably does some work on slowing climate change. Be ready to share. Talk to a neighbor if you can't think of anything.
Learning Goal: Discover organizations that work on solutions to global warming and obtain information on what they are doing.
Do Now: Make a list of the five things you do in your life that likely creates the most CO2 emissions. Share with a partner and see how many you have in common.
Scientist Meeting: You did research to explore further the hypothesis that humans are causing much of the change in our climate. It is now time to circle up as scientists and share what we have found with each other and use your evidence to reach a consensus.
See Google Classroom: WRITE a final long or multiple paragraphs using the evidence presented today as well as your evidence making a claim and supporting it about whether humans are a cause of global warming/climate change. Do Now: Rose, Bud, Thorn
Are humans causing climate change? Continue working on this research on Google Classroom. Studio Time: Do now: Get organized and get out your bus pass. Today we are going to Evergreen Park to do water monitoring.
Anyone who does not go on the field trip should meet in Beckah's room for GWT. Do Now: In your notebook, jot down what you would care most about if you were a species that lived in water.
Turn and talk to a neighbor and share your ideas. WATER MONITORING We are taking a break from climate research to conduct water monitoring on the Pigeon River for the Lower Fox River Watershed Monitoring Program. In your notebook, please write down questions as I introduce you to our mini-project:
Have one person in your group write down all questions you have so you know what to ask me when I get around to you. Do Now: Please grab your Cause and Effect sheets from yesterday and circle up.
Please look at your Effects of climate change. Which one of these chains of effects do you think is most likely to be able to be solved by humans? Task 1: PROBE and understanding check: What are the signs of global warming? Task 2: Please take the Humans and Global Warming survey on Google Classroom. Task 3: Obtain and evaluate information that could be used as evidence in your argument for whether humans are likely causing a lot of the global warming we have measured over the last 200 years.
Do Now: On an entrance slip, write down any information you feel you would still like to know about humans and climate change.
Task 1:
Read 7.2 Climate Change Interview with James Balog
Please take time to show your thinking about global warming on the assessment Probe: What are the signs of global warming? |
